Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Brunski - I think I went half a size too big on my Zoom Fly Flyknit. As there's no separate tongue, but all just a continuous part of the flyknit upper then when I tighten the laces the flyknit starts to crease up under the laces.

I swapped out the insole for a thicker one from another pair of trainers and that has helped solve the problem

I wear the same size trainers as I wear shoes, unless it is Suckonme Speedcross where I need a 9

What Jda said about availability.

The old rules said no spring device or something along those lines and on that front a the vaporfly would/ should have been banned ages ago.

Not sure about that SPR, many (all?) shoes have foam and a stiffener of some sort. The VF is more efficient, that's all. Sole thickness could prevent things like a pogo stick or pistorious blade for able-bodied runners. (not sure what rules if any there are on sole thickness in running, there is for high jump and it would put a strict limit on energy storage/return)

I'll have another fiddle around with the laces to see if I can make them feel a little more snug (without any pinch points), I'm reluctant to mess about with the insole but may have a play around as a last resort if I'm still not happy.

I've only done about 9 miles in them but I doubt I'd be able to return for a smaller size now.

My wife also swapped insoles (both the VF and the previous ZF) for some with a little more support round the heel and is happy with the result.

Jda - It's about whether it's acting like a spring though and I don't see how the video I posted awhile back is explained if it isn't acting like a significant spring.

Everything (certainly every stiffener plate in a shoe sole) is a spring to some extent, if they want to rule that it's too much of a spring, they would probably need some sort of rule/measurement as to how much of a spring is allowed. Analyses posted here suggest it's actually the recovery of the foam that brings the benefit, and all shoes have foam.

When the shoe first appeared I thought it would probably get banned, but on reflection it looks like Nike have just pumped in a lot of money and effort and made quantitatively larger gains of the same qualitative nature that people have presumably been making over many years...lighter, better physical performance. It's still foam and a stiffener.

In cycling there is a perennial debate with frame elements having to be structural rather than purely aerodynamic, but I don't think there is any way you could say any elements of the VF are there as a spring rather than being a integral part of the function of a conventional shoe.

Adidas boast about their foam too, it's just not as good (or so it seems). No doubt they are working hard to catch up - or even overtake.
