You couldn't train in them daily, they put enormous impact forces through
Kipchoge doesn't train in them daily, he wears other Nike shoes as well (Vomero/Peg turbos). As an side many get way more than 200 miles in them. I've done over 700miles in my first set of cheaterflies (admittedly they are fit for the bin)

I've read the figure of 200 miles numerous times although never been quite sure how true it is. Of course, there's a significant difference between the shoes being unusable to run in, which may be after 700+ miles, and the shoes having lost the springiness or whatever it is which gives them the performance advantage, which I imagine might occur far earlier.

Yes I agree there. After 400 miles + they felt like a lightweight training shoe, as opposed to a springy race shoe. That happens with all racing shoes though tbf. Old (as in >3 years ago) style flats were the worst for it, but then again cost less than 50 quid.

J2R they're pretty true for me, none of my previous pairs got to 200 miles.

J2R - SKR has nike on speed dial so that he can get his returns in....30 days, 200 miles, destroy shoe, get replacement
I get about 400 out of the nike before the carbon plate starts to poke through and at that point I assume that they are bust!

Interesting that paper from Arxiv, especially since it covers elites only
Mens' marathon WR (all at Berlin):
2:03:59 Gebrselassie (2008) 2:03:38 Makau (2011) 2:03:23 Kipsang (2013) 2:02:57 Kimetto (2014) 2:01:39 Kipchoge (2018)
"For men, the improvement is most likely somewhere between 2.0 and 3.9 minutes"
Still the greatest of all time?

I'm now thinking that I wouldn't really want an improvement of 'somewhere between 2.0 and 3.9 minutes'. What I would like is an improvement large enough to allow me to achieve my target time but at the same time small enough that I could convince myself that it was nothing to do with the shoes, and was just down to improved fitness.

I can buy that as I was 71 seconds faster and hit my target

fuzzyduck, that's an interesting observation. If you take into account the purported benefits of the shoes, Kipchoge's times are not exceptional, set against his predecessors' times. He is, though, exceptional in the dominance he has against his rivals over the last few years. He is a persistent race winner against other athletes with the same shoes.
