Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I still see friends/former colleagues from the job I did before my teaching job - I left in 2006 - but I never bothered to exchange phone or email addresses with colleagues at the school and have no interest in keeping in touch with them. It was a toxic environment.

I keep in touch with just one person from a former job, and that's only because I married her.

(I do see some others from that era because Mrs D is still friends with them)

Oops, how could I forget. I do see one person from the job I left 35 years ago. Same reason as Dio & Mrs D.

I’m in contact with a small number of people from my workplace - we meet up once or twice a year for a meal.

We were all trying to get out around the same time and were known as the escape committee 😁. Three are still there five years later!

Blimey, get them a poster of Rita Hayworth for their cell. Might be their only hope.

Back to NI top ups ....
Off Roader got through after about an hour holding today. As opposed to the 5 minute briefing before the line just closes.

One new piece of information, at least to us. Since she already had 35 years contributions, she could no longer top up any pre-2016 years with only partial payments. So the 5 years needed to top her up to (as good as, 50p/week short) the maximum pension had to be full years after 2016. That contracted out option doesn't sound as good now as it did when it was applied in the 1980s.

But it all seems in need of improvement, and a question of why it can't be automated from the DWP gov.uk site? Choose the years, get told 'yes or no' and a payment option there and then.
Instead of numerous calls & wasted time, then when you do get through 5 mins with a DWP person before another transfr, 5-10 mins wait and 5 mins with an HMRC person. Who managed to add up the sum to a different amount, but neverthess OK, and that 18 character code that ties your ££££ payment to you. And the '6 weeks to see it come through'.

Sorry, maybe that should have been on the 'grinds your gears' thread ...

Now I've told her, she's got to live for at least another 5 years to get a return on that!

Am I missing something? If my pension forecast says "you have the maximum pension that you can get" even if I was contracted out or not employed during some periods, does that mean I don't need to have the "fun" of trying to add additional voluntary NiC payments? Thanks. :-) G

That's how I interpreted it. Mind you, my forecast tells me I will get more than the standard pension so I'm a bit puzzled all round.

According to HMRC I have 38 years of full contributions and 13 years to contribute before April 2035

I'll be damned if I'm gonna work another 13 years !!!
