I think it's a retro vibe. The old dear in front of me in Asda yeasterday reprised the noughties classic of waiting until everything had been checked through the scanner before starting a long slow search for her purse. Then as an encore did the chart-topping "what way round does this credit card go?" thing.

The app round here (RingGo) charges 40p transaction fee on top. FORTY PEE!


I forget which app I’ve used but I’m sure my local council doesn’t charge for, ymmv though

Yes Greppers. The real experts, the virtuoso’s pay by placing coins on the supermarket conveyer belt, coppers first, then silver, for the cashier to:
1) Pick them up
2) Keep count of the running total as it inches towards the bill amount.

I genuinely saw this once, and all the coins in her purse were short of the total so out came a tenner…..

I used to work on the checkout at Waits. The "wait till the end of the scanning before rooting around for my money" thing used to do my napper in.
