Apologies x-post: Ness, Vrap, podcasts.apple.com this podcast I listened to today with Steven Bartlett and Marcus Buckingham is interesting and talks about how teachers and hospitals fail massively when it comes to making people feel part of a team which leads to poor retention and productivity.

I wonder what they’d say about my line of work and feeling valued / part of a team. We get lots of folk going when they’ve done their 30. Again like education and healthcare it’s a calling that people give all they have to. I caught up with the thread, 3k net pension per month would double my current salary ![]() |

I caught up with the thread, 3k net pension per month would double my current salary I suppose it all depends on what you’re used to and what your cost base is. I don’t have anyone else to consider. |

Bazoaxe it's definitely worth having that free chat to better understand what their concern is about the LTA, although it sounds like you have a pretty clear picture of your position. The 20x multiple on DB pensions for LTA purposes is really helpful, when compared with the LTA effect of transferring out, so it's quite normal for DB pension holders to be less exposed to the LTA. Maybe I'm cynical, but it's a strange coincidence that all those civil servants in the Treasury and HMRC have DB pensions, isn't it...? Just remember that you don't technically have to put all of your DC pension into drawdown if you don't need all the tax-free cash, and only need a certain amount to top-up your DB pension. You can take uncrystallised funds pension lump sums (UFPLS) withdrawals periodically instead. If your DC provider doesn't allow them, you could transfer somewhere that does. Good luck with the work situation - hope it goes the way you want! |

Whilst I've used the "how much you need to retire" sites to broadly sanity check my calcs, I've based our plans on a spreadsheet of our current spending pattern adjusted for the changes I expect once retired. I've just updated it to add a grand to the electricity/gas line!!

yes TR I think the fuel will have a big impact ... more than the 0.25% increase in interest rates!

Yep - don't treat them as gospel but if they said the yearly requirement was ten pounds, seven shillings and sixpence or, slightly more plausibly, forty thousand pounds, I'd have a bit of a scratch of the head and a re-model.
