um
DB schemes have surplus? Isn't that just due to the inflation estimates. Wasn't it only back in Truss's time that gilts (or something) fell through the floor and 'most' DB schemes nearly folded?
(I know mine, at the time, lost 1/3 of it's value, somehow miraculously balances by inflation reducing the amount of coverage needed?)

Sigh
I'm surprised this isn't getting more attention, coming hot on the heels of telling WASPI women they won't get anything for their loss of state pension.

Just checked the return for last year on one of my schemes.
Rate of return: +22.17% 29 Jan 2024 to 29 Jan 2025
Not bad, just hope it can continue for another 2 years (I don't suspect it will)

Wasn't long ago that massive holes in pension pots were the problem.

Exactly re past performance.
This was the pension plan where I could manage the funds where my money was invested. It was during the last 18 months I moved most of my money from underperforming schemes to better ones, predominantly one that focused on all the most profitable companies like Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, Meta etc. If I hadn't done that I think my return would have been below 10%.
Annoyingly, late last year, the company rationalised the schemes they offered and moved funds by default into a scheme with a risk profile aligned to your planned retirement age which took me back to where I was. I've readjusted, but will play safer once my retirement plans are firmed up or when the market looks shaky.

I wish it was so easy to keep a check and adjust my other schemes.

To to any significant amount. And I think the drop was an overreaction by the market, so there will be a good recovery.

Nvidia has regained some of the drop - but its share price is still double what it was in Jan 2024!
