We're looking at a 5-year plan to retirement. Mr S and his business partner are looking at an exit plan for their business. I'd be 58, Mr S would be 57/8 depending on when we choose to go. It's got a bit more official as they've been meeting with accountants and a financial adviser who can help with both the business and personal side of paying into and drawing out of different posts of money. I'm much happier about the thought of putting in 5 years at my current job than I would have been with my previous one. And enjoying all the tales of encouragement on this thread! |

Sigh
Sounds excellent, @TheScribbler - a controlled transition into non-working life!

I find work I easier to face with a planned end in sight. Now my wife and I are on same page about need to reduce costs as build up savings with a view to reduced earnings, it's easier to do the daily grind. The horizon is still 1.5 years away, so June 2026, I think. And that's barring now more financial shocks! The recent £12K scam that we fell for hasn't helped! ![]() |

I told my boss on Friday that if I keep enjoying work, I’ll keep on doing it. He knows I was thinking 2 years, and says he’s not holding me to anything. @Sigh can you please push my date back to 2027 regardless? |

Sigh
I've changed the date @cathrobinson , I'll move you into the correct place on the timeline when I'm on the laptop rather than my phone.

We’re both 54 but on track for 60. Seems ages away, which is fine by me as I like work, but suspect it will come round quickly. Also I need to plan well ahead, as a specialist dentist most of my treatments take 18-24 months to complete so the actual process of retiring could take a while!

Indeed, though I am starting to feel like it’s getting in the way of life a little! The conversation amongst friends and colleagues is very often about retirement though, we’ve definitely moved on from kids and houses.
