I'm currently in Keswick. Most shops in town have signs in the window seeking workers. Basically the folks who work for minimum wage can't afford to live here. It's the classic holiday town conundrum. My wife and I often joke about staying here and getting a job. Then we realise we'd be the world's worst employees 😆

Same problem where I live, not helped by internal immigration to the peninsula - partly driven by retiring folks from the SE moving down here driving up house prices / rents

Lots of seasonal and hospitality workers in the highlands live in caravans provided by their employers and are charged handsomely for the privilege.

Two of my children work in hospitality and have had reasonably priced if slightly rough tied accommodation in Ambleside.

It's our 37th wedding anniversary today :) . Weather here in Leics and northwards looked dire, but southwards didn't look too bad so we went to Lyveden (National Trust) in Northants and then to a pub for lunch. Worked well for us and the dogs and as we got home the heavens opened!
It's great to have a relaxed day out to celebrate rather than trying to fit something in to the evening after work.
