Just received an email from my solicitor. In Scotland when you pay off your mortgage you have to get some discharge paperwork signed off to give to the land registry. Need to wait for letter from lender, send to solicitor for them to sign off and in the meantime be £300 worse off for owning my home 🤦♀️🤦♀️

LipGloss that's a very unfair legal obligation to pay £300 for paying off your mortgage. Much fairer if the lender paid it, they've had a shed load of interest off you over the years. |

My thoughts to Shades. I m sure I never had to do that before with the last house we paid off.

We didn’t have any of that when we paid our mortgage off.

Merry Christmas and Happy NewG(rrr)
As a factor the e.g. £200K that you have paid for your house, which over e.g. 25 years at e.g. 2-5% over the years will have cost you £150K in interest and each house move you will have paid £10K in legal fees and stamp duty etc. and each re-mortgage may have cost you an arrangement fee and/or a fee to change of a few hundreds. So a relatively small, final payment for the privilege of being mortgage free. I envy you! G |

I'm on the countdown to retirement now My last working day will be 20th Dec 2024 but I'll have annual leave to use to take me up to my official date of 31st Dec In a couple of weeks I'll be able to say 'I retire this year!'.

That sounds awesome Roobarb I too am hopeful that this is the last Christmas after which I return to work. I had said June 24 when Mrs axe turns 60. However poor pension performance and a wedding in 2025 to pay for have me thinking Finishing up this time next year does feel like a good target. |

Yes please @Sigh! Is it sad that I have a countdown app on my phone which is counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds until 5pm on 20th Dec next year? |
