Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

I finished Restless (Boyd) and mostly loved it. The ending was a bit weak and in retrospect I think that is one of Boyd's failings - I don't think he always manages a very satisfying ending. Not much to it at the end of the day other than: 'Spies, eh? Can't trust em.' which isn't that big a revelation.

Now I'm playing at Daz the Slug as I have two books on the go, both classics from my Big Pile O'Unread Classics that have been waiting a while.

Calvino's If On A Winter's Night A Traveller

and

Laurie Lee's Cider With Rosie

IOAWNAT is one of those books I loved so much back in the day that I refuse to read it in case I don’t love it anymore- see also particularly Secret History (seems several of us feel that way about it), Snow Falling on Cedars, Pilgerman and probably many others. Earthly Powers. Ancient Evenings.

I recall *absolutely* loving it, but I can't remember anything about it except I found it strangely comforting.

There's one section I want to quote verbatim - I think Dio would like it - it's like one of his blogs. I'll see if I can dig it out online. (It's about choosing a book in a bookshop when you already have a pile of unread books at home.)

If you end up loving it as much as I remember loving it we should make it an official unofficial group book.

Calvino is one of those writers I've always meant to read but never quite got around to.

There are another two of his (Invisible Cities and Our Ancestors) in my TBR pile but I thought I'd go for the 'famous' one first.
