24 hour Munro record has gone today. Jim Mann's route has been extended to 32 by Sasha Chepplin. He's a Scottish Orienteer, only in his mid 20s. Young for that game.

Oooh, hadn't seen that, thanks ff.

Is Sasha Chepplin the same person as Oleg Cheplin ?

Do you know the area he did it in - Glenshee/Cairngorms like Jim Mann or over in Kintail ?

Ah, found it - Sasha ( knickname for Alex it seems ) is a different person from Oleg - brothers ?? Born 1997, so only 23 !!

And it was in the Cairngorms/Glenshee area ( only seen Oleg's run on strava doing the final 11 )

That's right Gus. Oleg is Sasha's older brother. Sasha extended Jim's round. I was involved in Jim's run and there was always good options to extend it. Jim's run was relatively conservative in that there were additional peaks within range but that also risked missing out on the record, so he went for breaking the record, rather than morepeaks and missing the 24 hours.

So a bit more on this. He went ACW (the opposite to Jim) and added the two extras Bhuird and Avon early on. He started with Ali Masson who dropped at White Bridge due to injury.

I guess the scary thing to me is that both Sasha's dad and Ali's dad are people I have raced against over many years, particularly Ali's dad who I've known for a long time. This feels like a generational shift and is rather unnerving tbh!

Jim covered around 142K and 6500m. I'm hearing that Sasha did around 150K and 8000m. That's a huge day out in that terrain.

Day 3, 14/282 complete, further 14 planned for today
Big day today - 5 @ Treig/Corrour, 6 @ Ben Alder, 3 @ Ardverikie.

Early start, away just after 5am, 3rd Munro, Beinn na Lap, complete by 7:51.

Looking at the webcams, then looks a decent day with most tops clear, maybe the highest ( Ben Alder ) just in some cloud

See that he's saving the legs as much as he can by getting the bike brought in as far as possible - 4 miles cycled out on tracks at the end will have been a lot kinder on the legs than 4 extra miles running ( and faster too ! )

14 munros, 40 miles and 5500m - he deserves a decent plate of scran tonight !

Weather looks absolutely minging for tomorrow - 9 more on the schedule

That's being very smart. 😀

Today looked a fantastic outing. Some of the those munros are seriously off the beaten track.
