Do you think he will have given any consideration to include some tops that used to be Munros, but have now been demoted, or any others that are potential to be remeasured/reviewed and could become Munros in the future, so that if it did happen his record would still stand ?

Just when I was looking ahead a couple of days to Fisherfield, the first of the old "Fisherfield 6" when done clockwise from Sheneval is a case in point, does he do it "just in case" or only if it is on his scheduled route anyway ?

Can't remember what others have been demoted, or if there are any that are under consideration to be included, but if they were not too far out of his way would he be tempted ??

Probably not, I think what he's doing is hard enough without making it any harder ;-)

I think you have to just go with what the current status is, otherwise the level of complexity just gets stupid, particularly when it isn't straight forward in the first place.

Personally I tend to think the record should stand whatever until someone does the then current list faster irregardless of whether any get down graded or additions made. But I also am inclined to think the Munros in 24 hour records that Adrian Belton and Jon Broxap set shouldn't have been adjusted (and certainly not downwards) when revised tables were published, so I'm probably out of step with Scottish Mountaineering Council.

I suppose if he knows anyone on the SMC then it might have been worth a quick call/email to check if there were any potential changes in the pipeline.

I'd imagine it would be a real bummer if 2 weeks after he finished SMC announced a couple of tops had been upgraded.

I suppose the argument for downgrading the Belton/Broxap number is that if someone did the exact same route as either of them, plus one additional outlier, then that should reflect as being a higher number rather than the same number. But yeah, all gets a bit messy whichever way

It does. I think I come at from the point of view you can only live in the world as it is now, not what it was or might be. But as you say it's messy however you deal with it.

The Lakes 24 hour records have a similar issue where there are peaks in the men's record that the women cannot add to their record (and vice versa) because of how the rules developed (see page on BG club site). Which means that unifying the two records is now impossible and to take the overall record a women would have to explicitly go after the men's record but wouldn't get the women's record!

Yes, makes sense to go for the record as "the list" stands, although there could be contention if he took the record by a matter of minutes/hours but with a couple fewer summits. Since 34 days is still on the cards, I'd guess that the 282 record will be the one to beat for anyone with the fitness, logistics and will in the future. Unlike the JK/DH Penine way record, I could see this one standing for a while.

It's also why my comment some pages back, that Donnie wouldn't catch up with my tally of 283 Munros. I started actively climbing Munros after the 1997 amendments (after wandering over a few without knowing about Munros), so 284 is the number for me.

My first thought was that he'll ignore Sgurr nan Ceannaichean next to Moruisg tomorrow, but it'd be intersting to see if he heads over it for parity with the Spyke record. That it's not on the tracker map is maybe a clue?

What was demotion timeline? Beinn a'Chlaidheimh demoted to Corbett status in 2012, Sgurr nan Ceannaichean in 2009. Not from memory - I did have to check those! hills-database.co.uk

He's ignored the previos Munro Sgurr nan Ceannaichean which has been demoted, so obviously not bothering about ensuring he does all the tops that Spyke did - can't argue with that

Hopefully just a tracker issue ( maybe took his race vest off to go to the summit like he did on Aonach Mor ), but the tracker shows him turning around before the top of Moruisg.

He was back at the road and now he's heading back up - he must have realised / been told that he'd missed the top.

That's going to make him unhappy !!!

I suppose the only good thing is that at least it's on an "easy day" and not on one of the monster days

Love the way Spyke turned up to run with him :-). FRom his FB :-

"5 Munros; Maol Chean-dearg, Sgorr Ruadh, Beinn Liath Mhor, Moruisg, Fionn Bheinn⁣

Total 248⁣

So 5 Munro’s was not enough today I decided to do Moruisg twice!!! First time the summit was in cloud and went to the big cairn, who knew the small pile of rocks 200m along the ridge was the actual summit 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️!! ⁣

It was great to have some company today, Steven & Graham Morrison in the morning and then it was great to meet and run with the current record holder Stephen Pyke this afternoon, one of the highlights of the round so far, he even joined me for my reps of Moruisg! ⁣Also massive thanks to Diana Macdonald for the dinner and home baking! "
