I have news, but I think JJ Flash should impart it, as this is his baby.

Without wishing to spoil JJ's newsround, the news is "we're gonna do it, and it's gonna be great"

Right, where are we up to?
Race to be advertised as the MicknPhil Half which is just less than three laps of the Lake. It will be an event race rather than a fast runners PB race as there is a chance (even in November) that there will be numbers of the public about and a race this big could cause problems. We offer at least one other distance to be determined, but a lesser number of laps.
We will target 1000 runners at a price to be confirmed, but between £10 and £15 per head. (Probably £12)
We have set up a core group of organisers. This group is open to others to come along and input ideas, we will adopt others into the group but we need a steady group who will take responsibility and move things along. This group currently consists of StuartM, Johnny Blaze, Smiliegirlie, Jason 1969, Lord Fetch, JenJ Nightjar, Phal and JJ Flash. If you couldn’t make it today and are keen to be part of this group please let me know urgently. Our current task is to solve the outstanding issues which are as follows:
Date: We intend to run the event on 23rd November. We have heard that the one local race marked in calendars as TBC – the Draycote 10 – has just been scheduled for the same date. We need this confirmed and if so we will defer by one week to November 30th.
Water: We will ask Severn Trent for some sponsorship on this as we at one of their reservoirs. Two water stations for 1000 runners for three laps will require a large amount of water to be available at the stations.
Timing: ElBee and Lord Fetch had some good ideas here so we will pass the matter to them
Sponsorship: Smiliegirlie revealed a professional interest and is going to take charge of PR. She will definitely need some help so if you have ideas for raising some sponsorship or will have time over the summer to contact potential sponsors please get in touch with either SG or me.
Publicity: If everyone could think of ways we can reach runners and help to convert their goodwill for MicknPhil into cash please let us know. In the mean time Johnny Blaze has a contact who can start on a poster, but all other offers/suggestions/cooments welcome.
Goodie Bags: We would like to supply some kind of memento but not at significant cost. JenJ will liaise with Max71 who has been working on a medal and set up a group for London based helpers for whom Draycote is difficult to get to. Their mission, should they choose to accept it, is to set about the Goodie bag question.
We are starting to put together a list of teams we will need on the day and before hand. We will need leaders to take responsibility for the team and volunteers to help with things like race packs, goodie bag stuffing, car parking, timing, marshalling, set up, water stations etc etc etc, golly, that list has just given me headache! Going for a lie down now

Yeah, it's a big list, but I don't feel daunted by it at all, quite the opposite. I'm looking forward to the challenge. Bring it on and let's get it out there!
