My dad is from that valley, Welsh Womble, so I also had a bit of a wander on Google Maps when I went through that area on the Castle Challenge.

Less than 10 miles to the first castle now. I'm stopped by a Travis Perkins. Might pop in for a browse. Then I might even walk along a bit further this afternoon. Otherwise I'm not going to get there by Sunday.

I'm just entering Hay-on-Wye now. I hadn't even realised it had a castle. But I do know it has a lot of bookshops. So I might hang about here a while.

Didn't there used to be largely WMC-oriented book festival at Hay?

Don't know what WMC is, but there is a brilliant Hay Book Festival. Last time we went was back in 2014 - we listened to Stephen Fry, Carrie Fisher, Jennifer Saunders and Steve Coogan among others.

@McG - there is actually a bookshop in the Castle! But my favourite is Hay Cinema Bookshop - you can get lost in there for hours and hours.
