Hann - you ordered one of the "Classiest Rarities" compilations didn't you? I know you'll enjoy it, Ady Croasdell (the guy behind the Kent label) is an absolute master and is responsible for tracking down the master tapes to a staggering amount of music. He also writes excellent sleeve notes under his "Harborough Horace" handle
I have a playlist of my favourite tracks taken from the CR compilations, I probably play it more than anything else.
Listening to some class 70s stuff this morning. Do you recall my mentioning LPOTs (LP only tracks) some while ago? Here's one of the biggest, it was so popular it was released on single and has been a mainstay on the rare soul scene for many years - it's just excellent and stands the test of time. Enjoy
While I'm thinking about LPOTs here's another that was huge on the NS scene and illustrates the Broad Church we've often talked about. This is "Someday" by The Tempests and was on their album "Would You Believe". To the best of my knowledge The Tempests were a mainly white vocal ensemble from that hotbed of soul music North Carolina. The lead singer was a black guy with an unusual name - Hazel Martin.
I thought I might indulge of my "other" passion for your entertainment
Feel free to post, but please do try and keep it soulful. No funk or ska please! I maintain an off-line list of all the tracks posted, if you would like a copy please feel free to fmail me.
