That River of Tears tracks is fab. Makes me think of the local NS nights (current) at the Assembly. Co-written by Gladys Knight?

Thanks for the Edwin Starr thang NS - yes v interesting. Iā€™ve been reading about Ric Tic in a trilogy of books Iā€™ve bought about soul by Stuart Cosgrove.

Macca - Once You Get Started is one of my housemateā€™s faves. Great tune.

Stuart Cosgrove is a bit of an oracle on music, all things considered. A guy I used to see for acupuncture treatment [in Harrogate] knows him and went to the same school, he speaks negatively and says he's a bit of a twat, this may be so but I've always found him readable.

Ric Tic is an interesting label, don't you think? I could be wrong, but I believe the rarest record that came out is "You're My Mellow" by Edwin Starr, you never hear it played, sadly. As a bit of a claim to fame, I saw Freddie Gorman sing "Take Me Back" at the Originals live concert over 20 years back, that was of course released on Ric Tic. Freddie said that was the one and only time he ever performed it live ..... such is the strange world of Northern Soul eh?

Prompted by RS's post above I was thinking about Ric Tic again while I was doing the washing-up this morning, it occurred to me that some enterprising soul put out a compilation of Ric Tic on LP vinyl, this was about 40 years ago I guess (or longer). There were further CD releases (vols 1 and 2) by the same name, but they really have link to the original LP. There were some great tracks on that album and here's one that I guarantee you will never hear nowadays, but is an absolute stormer. See what you think:

Does it sound familiar? Remember last year when we discussing instrumentals? :-)

..... and of course, one of the biggest Northern Soul anthems (ever) came out on Ric Tic:

Morning soulsters :-)

I got up early this morning to do some editing work and have been working to a backdrop of my "Crossover" playlist. This one came on and I thought I'd share ..... anyone like it? I do (obv.) but it's a bit complex and not for everyone :-)
