Fook, paywall! This might be too tricky a question so I'll put you out of your misery, although RS may well remember me eulogising about this particular record label - the link to Motown is there though. en.wikipedia.org en.wikipedia.org |

I thought you were going to say VIP, but it was Shrine. Interestingly, I went slightly down a rabbit hole at one of the links and found a 12” record I bought in the ‘80s which I played to death. I loved the groove but found the lyrics too simplistic. |

Yeah, VIP, Soul, Gordy, Tamla - all Motown subsidiary labels You know RS, that Frances Nero track has a hint of Ian Levine production. I know exactly what you mean about the lyrics, they don't fit or scan do they? |

Flipping heck, I must be getting good at this Frances Nero - Footsteps Following Me (Ian Levine) Frances Nero won a talent contest in Detroit in 1965, won a year's recording contract with Motown, and released one single, "Keep On Loving Me". She then recorded for Eddie Singleton's Shrine label, but those recordings never even came out, so she went twenty three years between releases. I wrote this song, which I adore, with Ivy Jo Hunter, the man who wrote "Dancing In The Street". I found Frances in Detroit and she hadn't even recorded for twenty three years. This was the only Motorcity release to cross over to the charts. However, and much to Frances' constant annoyance to this present day, the deal for Motorcity was an exclusive one, and was frozen, with no more releases coming out, and the only way I freed up the entire catalogue was to waive all rights to royalties for Footsteps, so none of us made a penny off it. Sad. But still a wonderful record and a classic, especially thanks to Chris Hill. And to Frances, if it upsets you that I'm featuring the song, well I'm sorry, but my pride in the record makes me determined to put it up here on my own personal page, even at the risk of upsetting you further. NE comment: Ian Levine has upset a LOT of people throughout his long career in the music business, myself included. The man is a twat, a talented one admittedly, but a twat nonetheless. |

“I am allergic to your jealousy” (Footsteps). Reminds me of: “Guilty Feet have got no rhythm” - Careless Whisper

Can I get in on the Isley’s love fest? Also don’t forget those early 60s UK covers of Isleys songs Shout made famous by Lulu and Twist and Shout by some Liverpool band |

Fantastic. I am debating which version of this record I like the most and think this one edges it.

I'm surprised no-one has posted this yet. Apparently it's quadrupled in value since the adverts. |
