Reading the Guardian just now reminded me I hadn't popped in for a while.
I've been trying to link the article as it's about Wigan casino but something keeps me from posting it.
It talks about the fact that black people attended the famous all-nighters and the run at the casino of dance competitions there were book-ended by the first and last being won by dancers who were black.
If someone with a bit more competence than me at the moment could check it out and link it I think it's worth a read.

In any of my top ten selections Curtis Mayfield and "Move on up" has to feature so I offer it up for consideration.

I'm not a massive fan of the so called "R 'n B" northern soul, but it occurred to me that we've had no examples here yet. Here's a couple that I do like. This first one has got real soul:

This was huge about 20 years back. It was actually "discovered" via a very obscure CD that was issued in the Deep South of the US, then the singles started to surface. Imelda May did a decent cover of it a few years back.
