Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

COP 26 will be held in Glasgow this year. together-for-our-planet.ukcop26.org

Am intending to cycle 600 miles with a buddy and perhaps a couple of teenagers to get there if we can persuade the parents. We will be promoting cycling where ever we go + collecting messages from people who are concerned about the sustainability of our planet + we're still designing the project. Am going to assume at this point that lockdowns will be lesser with the population being vaccinated.

Just looking at options when we get there. What would the weather be like? (thinking of camping) Is there good cycling infrastructure in Glasgow?

Hi RF. Great initiative. Should be good for some publicity! I don't live in Glasgow but just 50 miles away. It's big (1m plus population) hilly, old, grid shaped centre, terrible condition roads and v busy with cars and buses. Def more London than Oxford! I can't imagine it's much fun as a cyclist.

Not sure about camping. Can't think of any city centre camping! There are some big parks but doubt camping permitted. November could be pretty horrid weather unfortunately too.

Sorry don't have much good news!

I would also say please be v careful on the route to get here. Avoid A roads. A club mate's friend if mine was killed cycling LEJOG a few years ago.

Good. :-) G

That's a great idea RF. There will be a lot of security and accom will be really tight. Agree with what HG writes as well (especially the camping piece - tough). I am hoping to be there for some of it as I am trying to bully may way onto some aspect of what my employer is planning around this.

Good luck with the planning.

Thanks HG - for the advice. These incidences need to be kept in the mind of the public to improve the safety of the overall cycling infrastructure. Will have to examine routes folk have taken as will need to keep the kids safe.

Ritchie let's keep in touch :)

Try Dvorak who lives a bit closer to Glasgow. And cycles! Or maybe start a specific "Cycling to and in and camping near Glasgow" thread. You'll get some more specific replies I'd think? :-) G

You might get an offer of a garden to pitch your tent on warmshowers (you might on the way there too if you pass by here).

I'd be delighted to offer you accommodation, but we're 50 miles from Glasgow and on the wrong side of country, so probably not much use! :-) G

Actually, Dvorak is still 25 miles from Glasgow, so I meant him more for info.

I’m about 30 miles from Glasgow but down on the Ayrshire coast, so much not use either. Echo the thoughts about cycling and camping not seeming ideal in the Glasgow climate in November... but I’m not a cyclist either.

Thanks all - let me get my route plan together before I create a new thread and JDA will be considering Warmshowers especially if the 2 little uns come along.

About This Thread

Maintained by HappyG(rrr)
Hi
I've seen environment (whether emissions, power, climate change, access to countryside, whatever you think of as "environment") discussed in various threads: Politics (obviously), the Electric Car thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/electric-car-anyone-61481/ , run free's excellent "Competitive Running and Keeping The Environment Clean" fetcheveryone.com/forum/running-competitively-keeping-our-environment-clean-60907/ my own Greta Thunberg thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/greta-thunberg---jfk-for-the-climate-generation-61044/ etc. but I haven't seen a general one.

So here it is. For those interested in the science, the politics, the action for (and I'll state that for me, this is mostly pro-environment, anti-emissions, anti-pollution etc.) and the hope for the future of our planet.
