It has been tough, as with all Education settings. I’m going in to school on Monday to try and get the classroom ready along with my team of Teaching Assistants. I’ve really missed seeing the students though so am looking forward to seeing them even if it is only one day a week.

Still need to discuss with the Head what we do about students personal care and physiotherapy needs though. 🤔

I hadn't even considered the personal care and PT side of things, Ness.

Have you seen that a school has caught fire in Derbyshire? OH joked that it could be a parent not wanting the kids to go back, but I can't see that anyone would feel that strongly about it to do something like that (a pupil maybe).

It seems our decrees for teaching next academic year are getting a bit muddled. While our department is being urged to move as much as possible online to make space for quadruple teaching practical classes (due to social distancing), others in the humanities are being told they must have some face-to-face classes. Not helpful for those of us who might struggle to lipread students who are wearing face masks. We only have to set the timetable on Monday week.

If it was the school in Long Eaton, Grast_girl.... Apparently they were having building work and it was an accident. The school has been completely destroyed! Very sad. :(

My heart broke a little when I saw the school on fire. All of the work, resources, time, passion, security, belonging, history; all of that burnt down.
I really don't envy special schools trying to put together safe working practices Ness, when, by the very nature of the job, you need to be intimate. We have a couple of children who need personal care, nappies changing and physio but they are only coming in for 2 half days a week for now.

It’s not going to be easy. That said, I feel like if we can put procedures in place to keep the students and my colleagues safe then it’ll be worth it to get into the start of a normal routine. I feel that waiting until September will be too long.

Not Covid related, and utterly my fault for not backing up often enough, but my USB has died! Of course it doesn't have all my KS5 resources on it, nor all the end of year exams I have spent the half term putting together for yrs 7 - 10! Have downloaded some software and am waiting to see whether it can get anything back!

I think that would make me cry, Mrsb.

I am having a day off. The first since 8th March and I’m loving it!

I hope it can be recovered. A few months ago one of my USB sticks went through the wash. That made me cry. Somehow after drying it out it still worked. Well for long enough to get the documents off anyway! :-o

There are enough educators on here that I thought it might be nice to have somewhere supportive to rant and problem solve.
