It’s not just about ‘the racers’ it’s about people coming into contact with them too ‘ the Yorkshire Ambulance Service were worried that if there were an incident during the race, we would be taking up vital resources that may be needed elsewhere ‘ is absolutely spot on We went for a walk along the canal on Sunday morning and there was a race going on (well, a series of races from 5K to marathon distance if what I was told was correct). Several of those we saw taking part were in the vests of clubs a good way away from the venue There is a much longer game here. Races were under mounting pressure from all kinds of authorities and bodies already long before the pandemic |

Sorry I think I’ve perhaps been a little twee and petty if that makes sense. It also makes me appear like I haven’t thought about or care about those things. Think it’s a sign of me getting bored by the constant rule breaking by the ruling elite and I just want to go for a run instead of being forced to sit indoors and drink myself into oblivion. The difference between can we do it and should we do it is huge. I think there is a lot of leeway for races if they are prepared for the backlash. Kids did XC on Sunday by me in Tier 4! Completely in line with EA guidelines which I guess the spine doesn’t need to follow. I think my opinion is that I wanted it to go ahead, understand why it can’t, probably think it won’t and doubt it should. Some useful insight though as the race organisers have given so little info but have remained overtly positive throughout. No harm or foul intended. Have a good Christmas. |

Totriornottotri I think you're being rather hard on yourself. That's not how your comments came across. I think your penultimate paragraph perfectly expresses the understandable sentiment that came across in your posts. Take care and have a good Christmas yourself.

Oh okay I was worried I was being uncaring. It just came to me that the issue that is hard to come to terms with is I can run 268 miles around central London (when in tier 3) visiting primark and the like but can’t go for a walk. Hey ho. Tis what it is! |

ultrabritain.com For those that do this kind of thing - which I know is few. I am very strongly favouring defer but have a few other things going on in my life - so I’ve entered. DT, I think you’d understand. I’d like to have a chat in Jan if you don’t mind. |

Spine Sprint added to the event options. thespinerace.com I had always planned to do that section of the route as a long day or 2 out from Mcr, not got around to it yet. |
