Mario.
Hi all. have always ran with a group and with buddies. Recently been struggling as they rest of group are much faster than me and I feel bad slowing them down or everyone is busy when I want to run.
What’s the best way to tackle solo running

Podcasts.
I listen to comedy (laughing like a drain not always helpful), loads of R4 and R6 stuff, download books and just immerse myself in the background noise that they give. I also find that podcasts are good to regulate my pace, because I'm prone to trying to keep up with the imaginary group mate. Still maintain a half decent pace, but a sensible training pace instead of all out silly.

If you are prone to get lost without a group to guide you, you can plan a route and load it up to some of the running watches. It doesn't have to be a very expensive one with a background map - just one that lets you follow a breadcrumb trail. You might find Fetch games a way to stay motivated, and route-planning is very helpful for those too. For audiobooks I agree they let you while away the time without company. Iprefer a bone conduction type of Bluetooth headphone so I can still hear what is going on.

Agree Steve. I got bone conduction phones when I moved here and most of my running turned from off road to roads. Took me a while to adjust to them, but for where I run now they're ideal. Not been run over yet, and I get to actually hear the heckling and throw back some fruity replies!

I generally prefer solo, usually with podcasts and my own thoughts. Groups usually the wrong pace, or maybe I’m just antisocial.

I do about 95% of my running solo and don’t mind it at all. No music and alone with my thoughts, you can watch & listen for wildlife too.

I listen to audio books with bone conduction headphones. Much better than the in ear numbers, with those I had a few embarrassing jump scares when a friendly but undetected runner passed me in the dark😂

I do all of my training runs solo. Mr Ness won’t get up as early as I do. These days I use my phone and listen to the radio or podcasts using the BBC Sounds App. I bought a cheap set of wireless headphones. They sync easily with my phone and have little over the ear hook thingies so they stay in place well.

I always run solo, no headphones either, embrace the peace and tranquillity and it's much more meditative
