Crikey how bizarre - but as larks say, looks bang to rights. So she was probably on for a sub 1.45 if my calculations were right even with some added slowing down for running the whole distance and has "engineered" a sub 1.32. It doesn't win her any prizes (4th in age cat), it seems like a lot of time an effort, I'm guessing she probably didn't think she'd be discovered. Even at that level (which is good but not earth shattering I know several ladies in their 50s who regularly run faster halfs than that - and faster marathons than the 3.19.) HOWEVER I would like to point out that 6.19 pace in a particular section isn't that unreasonable variation in a half. When I ran my first sub 1.30 (1.29.52) - I ran one whole mile at 6.00 pace, near the midway point. There was a reason for this a) it was downhill and b) I was trying to beat the club chair, and the idea was to lose him - sadly it didn't work, I never quite got out of his sight and he reeled me back in over the last 7 miles (it was also a net downhill marathon with a big downhill at 11 miles so I knew I might get away with the foray into anaerobic), and predictably I struggled in the last 2 miles. But yes London is flat and doesn't offer the same opportunities. But yes I concur the other evidence (Garmin died, the London marathon engineered run), lack of photos at critical part, watch time compared to other runners in picture, really hammers it home. I wonder what makes a already pretty good runner feel the need to fake being a slightly better pretty good runner? |

You do realise the split is basically saying she ran half the race at that pace? She's missing a 15k split therefore the pace at 20k is 10km to 20km. |

Also kind of ironic, especially given this thread title, who her husband is. Though I do adopt a school of thought that both (or anyone) are defined by their own actions, and not that of their respective partners.

SPR - oh yes, it isn't just a mile, I'm well aware if you run 6 miles+ at that pace, it's a whole different kettle of fish, and she definitely cheated. It would be the equivalent of me running a pb 10k mid race in a half marathon. But I have been chastised on this thread before for using evidence of incredibly fast hill climbs on a bike to show that the rider involved was likely suspect, in the lack of other more solid evidence, which often isn't available. (And given despite the intense variability of temperature, wind, humidity, peloton climbing as a group effect on times -some of Pantani's top climb times remain unrivalled - such as Alpe D'Huez) |

The marathon investigations guy also defends people against malicious cheating rumours too. That's cool: marathoninvestigation.com |

Cycling a grand tour stage and racing a HM are clearly different.

But I'm agreeing with you here, pace alone , if within reasonable parameters (and 6.19 is), doesn't on its own give cast iron evidence of cheating.

Same, but different. Time up a hill climb in a GT is so massively affected by weather, wind direction, how the previous 100km have been ridden, how the day before was ridden, what the other teams do, what the capabilities of their own team are etc etc. Which is why I'd always say it can't be used as evidence of cheating. Pace over a few miles on a flat HM is pretty different especially on a flat course in a mass race like the London half. Even a single mile at 30s+ per mile faster than overall pace would be a red flag to me as that would be taking her into 5k PB territory in the middle of a 21k race. Even in my HM PB around the Great Orme in Llandudno, my fastest split was 6:06 (race average was 6:36) on a 80m drop descent within 1 mile. |

Her 5k PB is 18:13, 10k 37:58. Not sure that split from 10k to 20k puts her into PB territory for either to be honest. (Her HM PB also 85:40.)
