I know there is a thread for pregnant runners, but I thought a thread for the stage before that would be useful (for me at least) I suspect I am not the only fetchie with fertility problems, though perhaps I am the only one happy to talk about it openly!

This thread can be a place to share our struggles with infertility, treatments (IVF and non-IVF), side effects, and running and generally keeping sane while dealing with that.

We've been trying (on and off) for the last 5 years, so I guess about 4 years of trying in that time. We waited until a few months ago to see a specialist to investigate why we'd not got pregnant in that time.

OH has great sperm (or, as the consultant wrote in his letter "the numbers are very normal").

I have low egg reserves with an AMH of 1.9, which is more what you would expect of someone in their late 40s (I am 39). To make matters worse, my cycle has been all over the show the last six months, varying form 14 to 36 days long.

We're now on the 18 month long waiting list for publicly funded IVF, for which we could use an egg donor for (but we accept that parenthood was never meant to be before then). In the meantime I'm about to start my second clomiphene cycle.

I really hope things happen for you, Jenelopy. I know how hard and emotionally frustrating it can be, especially when you hear stories of family and friends who got lucky (or not) at the first time of asking. To feel left out of the 'baby club' is so upsetting.

My wife and I said that we would wait until after were we married two years before trying. I had to do a sperm count (normal) but my wife did not wish to go through IVF although we seriously considered it.

She eventually conceived after eight years of trying and was four months before we found out due to an irregular cycle and polycystic ovaries. We now have two children.

You are certainly not alone and I hope a few Fetchies out there will be able to give you some support and good advice. For you, I'd like to think that it will just happen when you least expect it like ourselves.

Jenelopy. Don’t give up hope that’s for sure. We have been through the same, problems being with me, sperm were fine, and an AMH almost identical to yours. Plus a blocked tube and hormones all a bit to pot, and a very short cycle, even on clomid. I am 37. I’m also 27 weeks pregnant. If it’s too frustrating/difficult for me to post here, please just let me know, I just wanted to say that the AMH level definitely doesn’t mean never.

How are you getting on with the clomid? I really hope it works for you. I really struggled with it, but it has good success rates for people, and it did make me ovulate so that side of it worked.

I’m also more than happy to talk about this, it’s a difficult time and it’s not talked about enough so great thread.

We didn’t qualify for NHS IVF as I’m too old and Jock has kids so double fail so it was private for us.

Really really good luck with it all xxx

Just want to say good luck Jenelopy. I had several rounds of clomid, paid privately for a first round of ivf and was just starting the second round on the NHS when I conceived and he's 10 now so good things do happen :-)

We got lucky with Clomid a few times - 4 pregnancies (3 successful plus one v early miscarriage) were Clomid-assisted. Our first was the only one that wasn't (albeit after 3 years of trying).

Good luck and as others have said, there are a lot more people in your scenario than you might think...

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and for sharing your experiences. I do think that fertility struggles / infertility is something that isn't talked about. More people have struggled/failed to conceive than I had realised a decade ago. Congratulations Gymfreak, and best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy.

We're paying for the clomid cycles, the first one was monitored and was going OK, but my cycle was short (23 days). I start the pills for the next cycle on Sunday. We're going for unmonitored this time (except for day 21 progesterone test).

I wasn't a huge fan of the side effects on the last cycle, hopefully they wont be any worse this time round. I hadn't realised that the side affects would continue almost the entire cycle, not just the 5 days I took the pills.

My cycles were short on clomid every month I took it. I did still ovulate though.

I also didn’t find the side effects got any worse each cycle I don’t think, but unfortunately they do, as you found, continue all month. I got them very badly, worse than I think a lot of people, as a lot don’t seem to find it that bad. I found it a bit strange as I never had side effects from things like the pilll, or any PMT etc, so didn’t really understand why me and Clovis didn’t get on. I hope this one is the magic cycle for you. A friend has just conceived on cycle 2 after 5 years of TTC xx
