Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

My marathon history is as follows:

2008 - London, first ever mara, 5.11.25 (ran with friends, lots of chatting and hand shaking, just wanted to get round)
2009 - Shakespeare, 4.57.00. V disappointed, was hoping to get much closer to 4.30, but just glad to finish by the end.

And that's all I've done so far :-)

This year's goals:

Dream: sub 4.20
Realistic: sub 4.30
OK: sub 4.45
Will live with: PB (sub 4.57)
If all else fails: get to the end in one piece

Manged to complete my 20 miles yesterday but the last 5 miles were sheer hell! It even hurt to stand up in the shower afterwards. I tried some sis go gels for the first time. They made me feel better in my mind but couldn't do anything about my aching muscles. Hopefully I'll build more strength in my legs before the big day

Hey Mr Hemel if the 20 was sheer hell and you are still training - do another in a few weeks and it will be easier - as if easy and 20mile can ever go together. Did you try and do some stretches and warm down after the run, before getting in the shower. I TRY to keep moving after i stop (sorry but ..) i get in the house walk up down stairs 2 or 3 times , change t shirt and then try and do some gentle stretches< even though i must admit it starts off with gentle- also helps if something on tv esp footy. How about a gooner video ? Even so i have some 5/10 + ache today, but a warm glow from the 17 :-) :-)

Paula - if we're talking mara history - 2 in my 20s 4:20 & 4:30 then since i hit 40 ive done 9more, 3 @Londons & Dublin, 2 Blackpool & the last Lake Vyrnwy in 2004. all between 4:51 & 4:24. I discovered high5 gels at Dublin07 & @Dublin 08 had my first negative split and a 20yr best of 4:24. I'd love a sub 4. But realisticallly Stratford around 4:20-30 will be ok . happy training folks, its great reading about folks and hope to catch up in April
