That is, of course, terrible, but I am left wondering why they used aluminium rather than steel for the rails.

Better metal for narrow gauge low use perhaps? Lighter, easier to work with in terms of flexibility and ease of drilling, also doesn't rust in the same way. Awful through. |

Aluminium is pretty expensive, so yes, you wouldn't bother with a load of steel. Over specced.

Ah Sorry I should have realised! seems they paid more money to use a material that is way more nickable. TBF for a light use super narrow gauge they could probably have used plastic |

Your taking the piss now. Spaghetti would just get stolen by the hungry Pipe cleaners not so much. Although either of those things with covered in emery cloth would give good traction. |
