Anyone done the 15 mile Illuminator race in Aboyne? Or any of the other events that are part of the trip?

I did the 15 miler illuminator. I love the route in the day light, hated it at night with all those other runners. It was too crowded for my liking. It's not easy with some tough climbs and rough terrain. The last climb is particularly steep.

There were several hundred runners the year I did it. The trails aren't really made for that number of people. There is a very narrow section about a mile in which causes congestion.
I was getting annoyed by people stopping in front of me and shining their torches in my face.
You miss the fantastic views running it in the dark.

We did the Illuminator a couple of years ago and had a fairly similar experience particularly in the first few miles as there was a lot of congestion. Later on it thinned out a bit but a lot of the route was not particularly inspiring. Haven't really felt the need to go back and do it again!

Once was enough for me too. I did a lot of swearing. The route is stunning in the daytime.

I think they’re starting the long one separately this year.

I did it the first year and haven't bothered since. I still use the mug at work though.
