Stirling has such potential and is great for the first 15 Miles with great support and fully closed roads. From there it goes downhill (metaphorically) quickly with a pointless loop of a deserted university campus and then the chaos that prevails when full and HM routes join at 18 miles. This needs sorting as it is dangerous and not fair on any of the runners. Not sure I would return unless this is sorted. Still a decent enough day out and 3:06 for 1st old git.

I had a great time supporting today at Stirling, well done everyone who ran.
I was a little surprised by the lack of marshals/directions on the high street and saw many people running on the pavements trying to dodge non runners. Also thought there would be more people out supporting but less than a mile from the finish and there was hardly anyone around us.

Yes Paul - I would agree with the merging of the half and full from a spectating perspective it looked tough for marathon runners to navigate through the middle/ back of the half. I was standing watching in various points but at 25 miles where sub 2.45-50 marathon runners migrate through 1.45/2hr marathon field. This is probably when a large percentage of the half field are finishing so fair amount of weaving.
I didn't realise it was you Paul but offered you a jelly baby just as you came out the uni onto main road

I spent a while spectating as well in Stirling today, enjoyed it. It did seem pretty sparse in the town centre, both in spectators and runners, much less of either than the pictures I saw of last year (when I was near to the finish). There are a couple of reasons.
One is that last year there would seem to be three times as many runners for a while due the laps. The other is that in the marathon, there were a lot fewer runners. In fact, over the two events, there were not many more finishers than last year: roughly 1800 marathon and 2700 HM this time versus 4300 last year.
In other news, it appears that the HM course was around 0.2 miles too long. (Genuinely, not just "my Garmin says".) I think that the loop at Forthbank/ St Modan's which was used instead of the originally planned out and back caused the difference. In fact, even the course map on the Great Run website shows it that much over.

You’re right Dvorak. I did the half and it came in at 13.28. Bit annoying as I was 9 seconds off my PB so would have squeaked a new one had it been spot on. Hey ho. I’ll survive!

I did Stirling marathon ( and yes it will be my only one ). Found Doune very supportive but found the University pointless and possibly because that time the heavens had opened. Also the last 4 miles were the worst. Pleased with my time and the knowledge I don't have to chase a PB.

Thanks for the shout out. I didn't feel as bad as I thought I would but it does take it out of you. Just happy the foot didn't cause an issue.

Thanks LouLou, remember you and I seem to recall you popped up in several places. I was still in boredom overload from the pointless University loop when I saw you.

Glad I spotted you too Paul. It’s a shame about the Uni’ Loop. Last year, it was stacked with supporters!
