I hope to see you in August then, will be a good build to an autumn marathon I meant looking at older times Cerrertonia you should after be either speedy or endurance biased, start at the end you used to feel less suited to? |

Seratonin, That's good news, will see you on our results page soon. I think 3K is generally a safe place to start as it is closest to 5km, and your 5km time is used to calculate your first time. I would avoid starting with a distance you are not currently running often - but theoretically you should be able to start at any distance that appeals. I think you are spot on in describing Race The Machine as fitting in with training rather than replicating a traditional race - that's exactly the aim. To make training more fun and provide achievable goals. Appreciate the thread and look forward to hearing more. |

Oh my kiddy aunt!!! I signed up last night and chose the 3K as my first "race" ![]() As part of the application process you have to say what your current 5k time is and I put 27-29 minutes. I calculated it to be 28:30. My time target set by The Machine for doing 3k is 17:59 No turning back now ![]() |

I entered this and did 1500 as my first "race". My target was 9.13 and I found a nice straight road with a following wind and managed 7.56 ![]() ![]() How did you get on Seratonin? |

Hi Minardi, Funny coz I noticed your name on the listings this morning and was going to message you. My 3k target set by the Machine was 17:59. I ran the 3k in 16.11 but didn't stop my watch until 3.34k (running without my glasses on and couldn't see the watch-face and wanted to make sure!) The photo I sent had 17.27 for the full 3.34k and I would have thought that they would have adjusted it down so that it was correct for the distance. I don't mind as the margin is less and maybe I get some generosity for my next target. Next up is a 5 mile and a target time of 53.26 which should not be a problem. What's up next for you? |

3k next - 17.55. I'm ultra training at the mo so it's going to be tricky on tired legs! Not sure when I'm going to fit it in - either a Sunday or Monday

The sun was shining when I went to Warwick earlier. That put me in a good mood and I decided (possibly stupidly) to have a crack at my 5 mile after work. Got home, answered a few emails, shut down the computer and donned running gear. Went out sans jacket for the first time this year. (Must say that it feels great to be out in the warmth with just a long sleeved techie, shorts, socks and shoes. Chose a 5 mile loop. So, an attempt with no warm up except for a stretch before hand whilst the Garmin booted up. First mile was tough and I thought about ditching. First mile split was 09.21 so I started too fast really. Had to stop at 1.5m to cross a road; quick swig of water and carried on thinking that I would see how I felt at 2 mile point. Watch buzzed and split was 09:38 - as route gets kinder at this point decided to push on and abandon if I bonked. Found a bit of inner strength and split at 3 miles was 08.59 which gave me a boost. Afterburners must have kicked in as miles 4 and 5 came in at 08.33 and 08.40 respectively. Get in!!! Time set by machine was 53:26 and I finished in 45:16. Machine trounced by a whopping 08:10 and I expect to get a severe challenge for my next "race" which I think will be the 1500m |

Wow - that's superspeedy, well done. I've been in shorts & short sleeved top 2 or 3 times this week - just haven't dared a vest yet. Did pick up a garmin tan line today but then again I was out in it for 24 miles!! |

Really interesting to hear about your experiences Racing The Machine. You are right that putting down 3.34km for the 3K would have made your next race easier Seratonin but the Machine usually bites somewhere throughout the series! Hope you are enjoying it.

Colin Wood from Ashton-under-Lyne became the first person to go through the Race The Machine six race challenge undefeated. His times were as follows: 1500 Metres 00:07:00 🤖 00:06:40 ✅ 3K 00:15:06 🤖 00:14:38 ✅ 5 Miles 00:44:31 🤖 00:41:58 ✅ 10K 00:57:10 🤖 00:53:48 ✅ 10 Miles 01:41:34 🤖 01:28:52 ✅ Half Marathon 02:11:34 🤖 02:05:19 ✅ Colin started with the Half Marathon and worked his way through to 1500 Metres. He wasn't confident of beating The Machine in his final race but did, by 20 seconds! Well done Col. racethemachine.co.uk |
