This is the last virtual run I've recorded (so far this year). I'm focused on training for 800m for the rest of summer, so it's unlikely I'll film anymore until late summer/early autumn. |

I've just launched a new YouTube channel dedicated to virtual runs, it's called Swift Trails and it currently has no subscribers hint hint The first video is a beach virtual run I recorded in Tulum, Mexico a few months ago I've recorded one more new run (another beach) for the channel, but planning to move all my previous virtual running videos onto this channel (I've unlisted them for now). I will slightly rebrand them in most cases, but in some cases, I might re-edit (making them cleaner) and have versions with and without music. |

I recently posted a new run on Swift Trails: I've recorded a collection of autumn runs over the past 2 months and more recently the Bath Christmas Market, for something a bit different. |

I realise this is mostly just the Blister YouTube channel @Blister But... can I ask a GoPro question please? Which GoPro has horizon levelling and any other GoPro tips for buying cheap / second hand? I am looking to film sailing and a work pal showed me amazing footage of GoPro on the tiller of his boat, moving in multiple degrees of movement, but keeping the image absolutely horizontal. Even when the boat capsized! I think the answer is GoPro Hero 9 and up, but possibly needing the Max Mod Lens? How much do I pay for that? Is GoPro 10 at £250 new or nearly new the lowest I can get? Or would an eBay something for £100 be too big a risk? Cheers in advance! G |

I've only owned two GoPros, the Hero 7 and Hero 12, the latter of which I purchased earlier this year. The 12 was on offer at the time and I paid £300 for it at Argos. I think you are right about horizon lock at least for older versions, but I know that on the 12, you don't need a Max Mod lens. I bought the 12 with anticipation, hoping to dramatically improve the quality of my virtual runs by utilising the horizon lock, auto boost stabilisation, and HDR features simultaneously. But I was left disappointed. The horizon lock only works in linear mode (so not wide or superview, etc) and I film my runs in superview. The auto boost doesn't seem to make any noticeable difference to stabilisation. The HDR does improve the colour and contrast but it really reduces the quality of the image - even in 4K it looks like some budget camera phone from Wish. See this video that I recorded using my GoPro 12, HDR and auto boost enabled, compared to say the video above of Bath, which was recorded using my GoPro 7. Don't forget the GoPro 13 will be coming out in November and that may bring the prices of previous models down a little. I've found that older models don't seem to depreciate much in value, I guess because they are still great cameras, the Hero 7 is still one of the best they have made in my opinion, it really depends what features you are looking for, I'm more concerned with the quality of my footage. I think £250 sounds about right for the 10 for now. Not sure if I would risk a buying a second hand camera myself. Does that help at all? |

Thanks Blister, that's very interesting. I don't really mind about the quality. It will just be for clips that will be photos or very short videos for social media ads / website teasers. But the horizon lock when sailing just seemed really useful. I'll keep trawling about for different models. Cheers, G

Yeah, the horizon lock is amazing; it's very similar to what the Insta360 can do. It would have been perfect for me if it worked in Superview to stop my videos from going wonky when going around corners. I can see why it needs to be linear, so it can crop enough of the image to always keep it horizontal. If you don't mind filming in linear (i.e., the same as a regular camera or phone), then the GoPro 10/11/12 would be fine for you.
