If Trump wanted to continue for a 3rd term, and was able to do so (i.e., alive and healthy enough still) he would just do so and nobody would stop him. The Supreme Court would just wave it through. The legislature would somehow just rubber-stamp it. Nobody would be bold enough to get in his way. We have seen that.

Think that was part the reason for my ? J2R. Guessing at the amendment requirements, but also would he just do it. Bit like his mate Putin really. I suspect you might be right though and right now, he'd be my most obvious pick for the next President.

Declare a national emergency and you can probably get away with it. Reichstag fire, anyone?

Im sure he looks at Xi and Vlad and thinks "I could do that." The thing is, it would take a strong congress and/or a strong Court system to stop him, and we know the likelihood of that happening don't we? Thank fuck he's 78 and not 58. |

Yes, JB, people everywhere keep going on about the law not allowing such and such, but that seems so naive, we're long past that point. A law has no potency against the likes of Trump if there is no-one prepared to enforce it.

“They’re laying the groundwork for this mass deportation in a way that we haven’t seen before, including on an explicit directive for the military to start creating detention camps”. Or Concentration Camps as they were previously called. |

Ultimately it will be up to the people, and we can expect very little from them based on recent form. White women proved once again they'd rather vote for a criminal, abusive male than an accomplished woman. FML.

Frankly if you're not white, not male, not rich, not doing well, I don't know why you'd vote for him and his self-indulged ideology. Anything he's going to do is for him and his oligarchy mates, but while a few million Americans might be able to coattail along, I otherwise don't get it. As someone said before, populism and fools, perhaps. |

You lot are such catastrophists. Trump’s Presidency is going to be a disaster because he’s incompetent, and like Brexit it is impossible for him to deliver what those that voted for him think they’re getting. People will see the actual consequences of right wing populism played out, with no excuses. It’s going to destroy the American right for a generation, and the ripples will undermine other regimes like Orban, Milei and demolish Farage here. Relax, take a chill pill and enjoy the show. |
