been there done that with the counselling.
All three of the guys I saw were patronising idiots to put it politely. The amount of weird ideas they came up with as to my eating problems.

I'm lucky with my counsellor. I've been seeing her since July. She's really helped me work through a lot of stuff.
I can see that if you don't click with your counsellor though that at best it could be unproductive and at worst counter-productive.
I'm glad she'll be there for me over the first difficult weeks at work.

Oh, I think I'd be a lot easier to counsel these days (hence the reason I no longer need to be) because I no longer go through life getting annoyed with people. I've learned if you approach people with respect and a smile you find they reciprecate. Funny how, when you're a bit of an awkward cow (you have no idea how awkward) you find yourself thinking everyone else is even more awkward (like looking into a mirror) but when you actually start liking people, you find they're pretty nice really, on the whole.
I suspect I was the patronising idiot, and they were trying to do their jobs....

I suppose it also depends on what you need the counselling for..........
Unfortunately some of my family (and friends) don't like the changes that counselling is helping me make as I'm no longer prepared to be a dumping ground and doormat just to 'keep their approval'. HOS is very relieved that I'm finally learning that.
Right.... anyone for fruit and nut flapjack as I seem to have made rather a lot!!!

nothing more exhausting and draining than being a people-pleaser. It doesn't help anyone - yes, counselling has a myriad of purposes, some more useful than others. I like to talk things out with someone I trust, Benjo or my mum or one of my closest friends. that's probably quite similar to some forms of counselling.
anyway - gimmie flapjack. lots and lots of it!
