I ran a 4 mile TT at Marple Runners tonight. 28.18, not bad, it was out an back..at the turn I overtook the lad I was running against, in front of him all the way back until about 200m out I could hear him catching me up, he went got level about 20m out and pipped me by 1m at the line. I called him a name then shook his hand and reminded him I am at least 25 years older and my WAVA would crush his.

yes, he was laughing.

Marple is a newish club, the run was in aid of the local foodbank, your entry is a couple of items for the foodbank. They have a few good runners, I think a membership of 120 or so, the must have had 80 or so turn up even thoug it was hailing early on, I think I was 6th/7th, race starts and ends at the pub, free sandwiches etc, you have to give your number back and safety pins (which will get used again), old school.

Marple Runners grew out of the Marple parkrun regulars I believe, and they have one of the best club vests going - Dennis the Menace colours :-). Nice bunch.

They do have a great vest. I think they’re a bit like my club Chorlton Runners. We meet at a pub too.

Being based in a pub seems to be a trend in NW clubs - Tod Harriers are the same, except it's a different pub every month so we get to sample more beer.

That's a good idea, the pub Marple use is Robinsons tied, not good beer-wise.
