If you can afford to stay in Manhattan then that's best but it is pricey from what I saw when I was looking to book. As the subway pretty much runs 24 hours then a hotel in Brooklyn or Queens should be cheaper and give better access to NY than I had. Another option I thought of was to stay on Staten Island for the same reason. I think the ferry to Manhattan runs 24 hours and you would be on the island for the start. Only problem with that is the ferry terminal and the start line are not that close so a taxi would be needed. Any other questions feel free to send an fmail.

Queens to Manhattan is easily doable but a bit of a pain. Manhattan is a much more convenient option.

thanks very much lads for the information....

i see on the map that brooklyn is closer then the other boroughs.

its like in the middle of staten island and centre park. so it would be better to stay in brooklyn.

i looked into the ballet way of entering and the chances of getting that way will be slim like.

how dose it work out, after you give all your details and pay for it.
and you dont get in by the ballet, what happens with the money, do they take it out of your bank account even you dont get a place.

no mate, they will only take the money out if your accepted, they let you know in may if your in,they only take about 20 dollars out for registering, and ithink it was only 3 rejections through the ballot system for a place.....

Got my place for 3 rejections in a row, so NYC here I come! :)

I've booked the Sofitel for 5 night which comes to around £1600! Near enough to the library and Central Park for me.

Just got to find a decent airfare now - ideally wanted to use BA miles but didn't have enough during the last sale and availability might be close to zero now around the marathon.

Very expensive around the Times Square area although I'm sure there are cheaper places as you head outwards. Haven't paid it yet so I can still look around and see if anything better / cheaper is better suited to me - just like to have a room booked in case things do fill up.
