I've got the existing pond full of water that I want to evacuate the plants from to a new, smaller, easier to maintain one.
I don't have fish (and don't want them), so I've no need for a 1m deep, quarter crescent pond 1.5mx1.5m across which is in a stupid place. I'd rather have the garden space, turn it into a proper patio area and have a smaller wildlife pond instead.

Don't make it too small! Small ponds are a bugger to get in balance.

I'm buying a pre-formed one for a number of reasons, but adding a margin. Something like this one: pondkeeper.co.uk

Then basically filling it full of plants.

That looks like a reasonable size. I'd be interested to see how it works out.

Will it be in sun or shade?

(I've had ponds in previous gardens, but I'm planning to put a new pond in at the end of the summer, so I'm hoping to get this one right)

It'll get a fair amount of sun, but I've got a number of shrubs/bushes I'm growing along the fence line which should make it semi-shaded.

I'd estimate it'll get something like 3-4 hours decent sun most of the year. Maybe a bit more. It depends on how far away from Pieris I've already got established I end up putting it in.

The full plan is to line a hole with the existing liner I've got, then fill with some compost to level out and drop the preformed one in. Then line the margins with some stones and plant right up to the edge of the preformed pond.

If I can manage it.

It's tricky because there's a gentle slope down the garden and the top end of the garden has also been severely degraded by the stupid leylandii hedges that were in.

Leylandii should be illegal!

I constructed a new pond last Sunday, although I suspect it may be some weeks until we get any rain to start filling it up.

I also constructed a small pond a while back, I put plants in but they died, any suggestions as to which plants are best?
