I have burnt myself by sticking my hand in and have daleks, inherited from clients so it is more sustainable to stick with them... 9 in total. They regularly get well above 60. A properly built heap gets much hotter. Over 100 c not unusual.

What’s the secret to getting a hot compost heap? I put in a good mix of greens and browns and it does compost eventually but slowly. I never get around to turning it so that could be where I’m going wrong.

That's why I was going to get a hotbox one - no need to turn.

And also apparently you can put all food waste (not just veg) into them

I don't turn either. Cut or shred your compost material. Mix in coard board and grass clippings. If too dry, water.

Hmmm the only thing I don’t do is water it. I’ve always relied on the rain (in the olden days when we used to get rain).

We had quite a downpour yesterday for a short while, but the garden already looks freshened. The lawn has started to turn green overnight and I swear that grass has grown since yesterday.

Hooray!
I got up to a drying lane but wet leaves still. About to head out to teach yoga, but I shall assess my water collecting vessels close to the house. The had barely collected anything last night but I think it must have rained while I slept. High chance of rain today again as well and through the night, before temperatures rise again and relentless sunshine. I hope to fill my pond and for that, I need to have full water tanks!

Ohhh... Forecast changed! It is going to stay in the low 20s for a week, with intermittent rain and little sun.... I can prepare my planting area in the food forest for my herb bushes then hooray! About time... Some are struggling!
