Yes, though I’ve never done it. Had a bad experience a couple of years ago with a well-known brand of commercial compost marked as containing green waste; it probably had chloropyralids, which are commonly used by councils on verges (a practice which should stop!) and have the same hormonal
effect on broad-leaved plants. It affected things at home. Since then I’m more careful with home compost and wouldn’t buy anything which specifies it contain green waste.

hello Fetchies

is anyone able to identify this tree for me? it's the one with the lighter leaves.

the tree is about 50ft high. there are a number of saplings around it, which i assume are from that tree. the saplings' leaves are a similar colour but the branches have some large and very sharp spikes.

I'm not sure if the tree itself has similar spikes because the lowest branches are about 10 feet up and i can't get a close enough look, but I think it has.

thanks in advance

From the colour and shape of the leaves I'd say robinia.

Certainly pea family, Fabaceae. I was going to say black locust / false acacia... which is Robinia pseudoacacia.
