Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

It’s not that I don’t like blackcurrants, they make great jam, but I’m trying not to eat too much sugar so I prefer to grow fruit I can eat raw (or lightly cooked with a bit of sweetener).

White currants are much lovelier than the black, or even red. My local blackbirds concur. I never get any of them, except blackcurrants.

The pink one with the fluffy pointy flowers that often goes native is Spiraea douglasii, or hybrids based on douglasii.

I quite like blackcurrant jelly with game, but otherwise really don't like currants of any colour - I think I'm rebelling against the fruit that we were force-fed as children from dad's fruit/veg patch (except for strawberries and raspberries - who could dislike them?)

I’m really not very keen on strawberries.

I love strawberries...and most berries. Never tried gooseberries, though I do have a small plant with them.

Just eaten gooseberry and elderflower fool tonight. Looks like that is my one and only bowl of hooseberries for the year. I may need to start pruning them properly. I'm pretty sure it wasn't birds, and we had no sawfly, so unless it was the late frost or the hot, dry spring weather...
