While trimming the hedge this afternoon I spotted that one of our trees has sprouted a load of bracket fungus. I was already concerned about some heartwood rot where a large limb was removed some years ago, and I think this means it's going to have to go. It's on our boundary, quite close to the neighbour's garage doors, and the last thing we want is it toppling on to them or their car :-0

Lovely display of lupins CT and so on trend baby, yeah ;)

LD, sounds like that tree does indeed have to go, can't risk it :(

I have fitted the new roof net to my fruitcage tonight, on my tod, it was a chore and a half! I repaired the fruit cage last week, ordered the new nets, but hadn't had a chance to fit it yet. I was watched by endless blackbirds, a bull finch, a crested tit, a robin, several pigeons and squirrels, some siskins, gold finches and the chickens. It is obvious I have some strong competition for my soft fruit :-o

Meanwhile, the hedgehog was on slug patrol, something can't say for the chickens, they were simply stood staring at me ;)

I spent some time at my PC yesterday looking and pondering over fruit cages, think I may have to invest for the future.

We have a couple of mice-planted hazels at the bottom end of our allotment, so mice can be useful. I suspect they do a certain amount of compost turning, as well... :-)

I dug over my compost heap this afternoon. It's a bit rubbish. I think it needs (1) more torn-up cardboard boxes, and (2) more time.

Pulled out two mini oak trees from the lawn yesterday (with acorns attached) which the squirrels planted a few months ago. The other irritation is that our neighbours don't prune anything and may only mow the lawn a couple of times a year. As a result, I am forever cutting back brambles that creep over the fence.

I would be tempted to spray the leaves of the brambles SP.

Guess what I've just done to my next door neighbours encroaching weeds and brambles, D2? :-)

In fairness, I was treating my own gravel drive at the time too.

Having some hard landscaping done to create another two beds, one outside our front door and one at the back. Both in theory communal areas but in practice we're the only people that look after them. Really looking forward to having more planting area!
