Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I will say it's tough for Grant to run as slowly as he did - he would have easily won had he not been pacing.

I didn't run - I manage the pacers team & baggage / rewards arena.

Thanks foxy, but did you follow the pacer?

I went through 19 miles in 2:04 and he came past me. Thats 6:30 pace, or 2:51 marathon time if he carried it on.

I'm not blaming him for my failure, that was my own doing, but looking at finishing times doesn't tell the whole story.

yes a bit quick early on having looked at his splits - i know he wanted to do a fractional positive split to account for the second half undulations but that was a bit too quick.

Did you just miss sub 3 ?

No, I lost it completely and came in at 3:22. I think my body is capable of sub 3 but my mind certainly isn't.

I will say it's not the quickest of courses - If i was going for a time this spring i would have done Manchester or Rotterdam but then some folks struggle with the constant flat pounding & lack of variety.

I have been going out hard lately & running a physical first half & then hanging on with a very mentally tough second half - not sure sub 7's for the first 7 is recommended & certainly know I can't last at that pace.

Where did it slip away for you ?

Support was good, still not a lover of the route, or the changes.
Very bad move in my opinion to have the half and full starting together, way too crowded and some very rude runners...if I wasn't a lady I would have sworn at one guy he was so rude!
Personally I had a better, more "enjoyable" run than last year once the half and full courses split from each other, course pb of 25 mins...not too shabby having completed a trail marathon the day before with my dogs :) I've don'e MK twice now, that's enough for me. (still will take part in other marathons though, double next week too!)

I quite liked the route, I ran Manchester last month and probably enjoyed MK more.

I agree that the half and full marathons together wasn't great. I was running with loads of people who then disappeared when we split and I was suddenly alone.

I have done a few training runs starting out at 7 min mile pace for 10, then picking it up to 6.40 until 22.5 miles and I've found that fine but yesterday I was done for by 19.5 miles.

Funny how the mind works, straight after I said no more to my wife, then I said maybe one next year now I'm thinking an autumn attempt might not be too bad.

Always tough to know how to start a half & full timings wise ? do you start the half first then the fast guys get stuck in slower half traffic or the other way even worse the rapid half boys get trapped behind even slower marathon runners ?

It's a quite a rolling course for a city marathon. once is enough for me - I live here & run parts of the route daily (the nicer parts near me generally).

I've not done Manchester to comment on their route but was told it was a fast course. i did Rotterdam & whilst flat - the boredom got to me - I like some undulation - Brighton has a good mix - a few minor inclines to keep it interesting.

Robin Hood used to be similar with the full & half - running with 8000 for 13 miles then 800 for the remaining 13.1 miles - one year I was so alone I was actually wondering if i had gone the wrong way. I think lack of support only hits me when it's not a great day at the office.

Like you say there is no ideal way to split the two without them merging at some point. I think the sun helped me enjoy things yesterday, Manchester was a bit grey and dull when I ran.

Anyone got any good pictures from yesterday? Looks like I feel asleep early on.
