Thank you all. I'm missing my purry shadow, and we'll wait until the new year to decide about a new family pet. We do still have guinea pigs but it's not the same...

Does anyone have any tips on training a cat to go through a double cat flap (think air lock)?

She used to get on fine with a flap and tunnel (without a secondary flap), but since having some building work done, during which we added a flap on both sides of the wall to try and reduce drafts, she just doesn't go through - unless you hold one end open for her!!

I've even tried putting treats in the tunnel, she then manages to get in and eat them, but then reverses out and won't push the second flap open, even though they are really light ones!

It's driving me potty lol (and I suspect the neighbours are having a laugh/getting annoyed with my efforts of trying to call her through...)
Any suggestions gratefully received! :-)

I think sort of carry on with what you are doing but I would only reward her for going through the second flap as that is the behaviour you want so no treats in the tunnel. You may have to more patient though

Try using a stick with something really yummy on the end then use that to lead her through

That's an idea yes, will see if I can find something :) She seems scared to go through the second flap, either in or out, even though they are both see-through, funny thing...

I think it’s a confidence thing once she has done it a couple of times. You can buy clicker trainers with extendable sticks on them. You could practice outside of the tunnel so that she associates the sound of the clicker with good things

Thank you, that sounds like a plan! I'll investigate and see where we get :) I'm sure she just enjoys watching me on my hands and knees trying to coerce her through really lol
