In theory, Johnny, oxidation releases free-radicals which are apparently harmful. However the evidence that ingesting substances that are high in anti-oxidants reduces the oxidation and release of free-radicals is pretty thin, to the point of being transparant.

It's basically a bit of health food snake oil bullshit.Very popular, though, and I'm guessing quite lucrative.

Thought I would add a few sound bites to the end of this thread. Apologies stumpy, I did so no sugars an should have said "artificial" sugars. There are in many theories out there to improve performance through diet. Gluten free diets have been muted for years, David Hayes dietician believes Pasta is the devils work, try telling that to half the London Marathon Field. I stand by my opening comment, Its the best recovery drink around. I dont base these findings on science, graphs, snake oil or marketing speak nor through rose tinted spectacles. I base this on personal experience from a runner (once reasonable), who broke his ankle in a marathon, spent the next 15 miles butchering his leg, and never thought he would run again. After 5 years of depression, a nervous breakdown and sinking to the depths of despair, I am back. Not quite with a bang, but probably just about to go sub 40 for 10k. I tried the drink after a very long training run, and swear by it now. It was sent to me as a sample by an American company whom I had some dealings with on another sporting matter, I chose to be a distributor for Mastic Blast, and you will be able to buy it shortly in major chains throughout the UK. Mastic Blast has given me a new lease of life, not from its content or chemical structure, but from an opportunity to make myself feel good again, feel worthy, and a chance to achieve. Whats the science behind it? I dont care, it works for me and anyone else who has tried it. I have acres of science documentation, sports research and back up to the very simple claim that its a very good recovery drink. You will see it all in time. It was a rough ride on here, not one I have taken lightly, and again I apologise if you thought I was deceiving any of you. I wasnt, it was an interesting exercise in obtaining the opinion of the most educated sector that I will ever face, the running community. Have a great weekend guys, when you do your long run this weekend, spare a thought for me. My run ended with a Mastic Blast, because its the best recovery drink I have ever used, thats a claim that isnt snake oil, b*sh1t or marketing cr*p, its a cold hard fact.

That is the least convincing sales pitch I've ever read.

My advice: Go to Realbuzz. You'll find plenty there who might be convinced by "I don't care about the science but it works better than anything else and I would know, being a bloke who doesn't know or care about the science."

I wish you luck with your business and your sub-40 10k attempt.

Also, free radical scavengers are different from antioxidants.
Just saying.

I can't believe I am allowing myself to be sucked back into this.

Ok, what exactly are artificial sugars? Sucrose? Sucrose is naturally occurring in sugar cane. Sugar is natural. Too much of it isn't great for us but that includes fructose.

As for a recommendation based on the thinking in the Hay diet... Isn't that one of the diets that thinks you can change the ph of your body based on food? Utter quackery. google alkaline diets or go look at quackwatch.

I sympathise completely (more than you know) about the depression and coming back from injury. I am delighted for you that your recovery has been so good. It isn't down to a drink though. It's down to your strength and hard work. google placebo for an understanding of why you think this drink helps you. The mind is a powerful thing.

Lastly, I wish you luck with your business. I suggest that you work on understanding the data behind your product. And getting hold of it so you can share it with prospective customers. The info I have gleaned from press releases doesn't fill me with confidence in the product. The entire focus is on 'cashing in' on the higher price point of 'sport' drinks. There is some spiel about the supposed properties of mastic gum but no references to any hard data. Saying that Christopher Colombus believed it cured cholera (LMFAO) is about as scientific as it gets. Along with quotes from the mastic growers association (also with no references).

You might want to look at search optimisation as this discussion is either the first or third result depending onyour search terms - not the greatest advert. This isn't necessarily your responsibility but that of the Uk company. Tell them to actually put some references to publications and data in their website and press releases.

Oh and is it a recovery drink or an energy shot? You say one thing and the company says another.

Second on the Google search for "Mastic Blast UK"! And that's after a link to seelantsandtoolsdirect.co.uk, so I'm no tsure if that counts.

I'd missed "artificial sugars"! good spot, Stumpy.

I couldn't be bothered to bring out links regarding glycaemic index and complex vs. Simple carbs.
There are lots of supposed eating plans from hay/Hayes. Most seem a little odd/superseded by other thinking.

Still don't know if he is recommending Hayes or not. If so then this drink is not compatible with that eating plan!
