I am trying not to obsess about the south of France weather forecast for this weekend but earlier this week it seemed as though it would be raining but that has been updated to cloudy but dry and not too windy. Still could change but for now I am happy with that.

Looked like the weekend that has just passed was a good one for globetrotters, with Athens, Istanbul, Las Vegas and my choice of Beirut,. This is a race that is well-organised. Not a big field, so plenty of room to run, but not a quick course and only the first 7km and maybe the last 3km could be regarded as scenic, but it was interesting to visit Beirut. For me it was a good opportunity to get a womens top 50 position in an IAAF Silver Label Road Race.

I loved Istanbul as a city at the weekend but rather a dull marathon course - reminded me of Athens fantastic start, cool finish but lots of dual carriageway in between but worse than Athens the 3 lane highway was 7 miles out & 7 back !!
The starting mile takes you from Asia across the Bosphurus bridge into Europe followed by stunning views as you cross the bridge lined with fisherman with a wonderful city scape ahead of you. The finish through the park & in front of the Blue Mosque is pretty cool if you have turned off the Tourettes by then !!

Good way to start on the "marathon on every continent" ticklist then. Or maybe it doesn't count for either?

Not sure of the criteria for the 7 continents club as I have never looked don't fancy dropping £10k to run on a patch of Ice (I have Asia having done Tokyo anyway).

as "European Turkey" is listed then one would presume "Asian Turkey" counts too - but not sure if there's a minimum distance required (Istanbul is less than 1km in Asia !) or indeed they differentiate where you start or finish.
Marathon Globetrotters for countries distinguis that the race must start or finish in a country to count or if it doesn't start or finish in a country more than half has to be in the country you are claiming.
half way to my third patch with 25 now in the bag

I wonder whether anyone has actually run a marathon on an iceberg!
The antarctic marathon that you refer to is at the end of the month.
