Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

On the half way timing mat, I think it was the same last year. Even the official splits report (e.g. see mine here results.sporthive.com ) shows the mat as being at 13.05 miles, which is very odd. Same this year (e.g. WW's splits results.sporthive.com where they report the mat as being at 21k instead)

I noticed the 13mile marker and timing mat were co-located when I ran along Park Road prior to the leaders passing through, however, if you believe the official route map ( manchestermarathon.co.uk ) is correct then they were both located closer to the correct half-way point than the suggested 13 mile mark on the map. That said, I do recall seeing on the tracker quite a few people with quicker second timing splits than first split paces.

I think after the "short course" fiasco of 2013-14 they don't ever want a repeat!

Nelly, the course map isn't sufficiently precise to really be useful. I don't see any difference in this year's route between 10 and 20 miles and the 10m dot is the same as on last year's map (which I looked up on the internet archive) but the 20m one is appreciably different.

Whether the mid-point mat was actually 13 miles or 21km or something else it was noticeably short of a half marathon distance and still further short of half way round the course.

Thanks for the shouts BTW, I heard a few "James" but of course it's written on my number so assume it was just a random call-out (like I get for Settle Harriers too)! I was next to another James in the pen too, so it might have been his friend :-)

JDA - will you run it again next year or are you tempted by something / somewhere different?

I don't know what guidance there is, if any, about races being long.

No, I wondered that too - I know that in theory a race certificate becomes invalid if the route laid out is different to the one that the course measurer approved in the submission / measurement exercise, so if they did approve a marathon + 0.1% accurate course and they laid out a marathon + >0.1% course on the day in theory that would invalidate the certification, but I doubt it would have any practical effects or even be noted by anyone officially.

Not quite sure WW, at some point I really ought to have a go at London, not sure when to do that. Or I might give it all a miss for a year or two, I can't see me doing another 6 in a row up to M60. I don't have anywhere else on the horizon but something might turn up.

Oh, there could be Bentham again locally some time, but that's more of a fun run really. I have a title to defend if they put it on again :-)

If I did the ‘correct’ distance I still wouldn’t have pbed it would be like 2-3 mins quicker I guess. But it’s poor if they have added. I won’t be going back next year just wanna do another possibly Newport and possibly Salzburg as another.
