Not longer, just differently accurate Hamms. More precisely incorrect perhaps.

Or just plain wrong in a totally correct and calibrated way.

I think you are in the same place as us (or at least me, Glenn and Spouter and Tom) Hamm.

Understand the theory, fail to understand why it is so different in practice: I'm still alarmed about strava giving different (sometimes higher, sometimes lower) maximum speeds.

If we, for one moment, assume Garmin Connect (and the unit itself) interprets its own data 'incorrectly', then the 'next most likely' candidate for getting it 'right' would (I'd argue) be Training Peaks.

Which comes out with the same numbers as GC, Fetch and, I believe, RuniningOnionsFriedOnSaturday

There is no call for that kind of behaviour!

And being serious, is this the sort of small story that MoL might be interested in?

And what did you do about that wondering?

I tried to contact TH via the BBC website, but could only find a generic 'complaint' link. Why don't you tweet the dear boy?

Hammerite made a good point - I wonder if strava was just using the GPS signal and ignoring data from a speed/cadence sensor (assuming you have one)? There's every chance that the data from GPS and the speed sensor could be different, especially in a GPS blackspot.

About This Thread

A sort of 'Why FetchEveryone is better than STRAVA' wire.
----

Last Sunday I cycled to church.

My Fetch log, which I trust beyond all possibility of doubt, tells me this:

17.07 miles, 1h19m46s, max speed 30.3mph

Garmin Connect, which one assumes is closest to the raw data, tells me this:

17.07 miles, 1h19m46s, max speec 30.3mph

This makes me very happy.

Now, gentle Fetchies, you may have seen or read or experienced strava recently, and been tempted, as I was, to 'dabble' and see whether it might be fun. strava taking data from the same source (my Garmin EDGE 800) tells me this.

17.1 miles, 1h20m48s, max speed 31.9mph

Interesting, eh?
