Enjoyed this comment:

"Uploaded a ride today, strava showed my max speed as 29mph and average speed as 36mph."

I thought strava was a pissing contest for commuters.
Now I realise it is a pissing contest for deceitful commuters.

I will shun it.

From Sprouto's link:

"we just started calculating our own distances based the raw GPS data instead of using Garmin's distance data which was causing other problems. Garmin's will be spot on because they use their own data interpretation. Our analysis does not always agree with Garmin's but we believe it to be just as accurate".

How the *ACTUAL* fack can it be 'just as accurate? Either one is right or the other is. My maximum speed yesterday was either 24.0 or 21.9. One number cannot be "just as accurate" as the other, surely?

Where's Glenners when we need him?

They did say further down that they'd changed that back, but it's clear that some people are still reporting issues.

I suppose that quote could be ok if they were both incorrect, i.e. your actual speed was 23.95...

I can see the value of elevation data correction, I have some runs that I know to be virtually flat but the actual garmin calculates that I have climbed many hundreds of metres. I put this down to waving my arms around a lot.

Both Garmin Connect and Fetch will smooth this data after it is uploaded and compared to a map and give a more realistic elevation profile.

I dont think the same can be said of distance data though, and even if it were, it would work to shorten your plot rather than lengthen it.

(Meant 22.95 in my earlier comment. Maths is hard)

You mean 22.95, one assumes Sprouters?

About This Thread

A sort of 'Why FetchEveryone is better than STRAVA' wire.
----

Last Sunday I cycled to church.

My Fetch log, which I trust beyond all possibility of doubt, tells me this:

17.07 miles, 1h19m46s, max speed 30.3mph

Garmin Connect, which one assumes is closest to the raw data, tells me this:

17.07 miles, 1h19m46s, max speec 30.3mph

This makes me very happy.

Now, gentle Fetchies, you may have seen or read or experienced strava recently, and been tempted, as I was, to 'dabble' and see whether it might be fun. strava taking data from the same source (my Garmin EDGE 800) tells me this.

17.1 miles, 1h20m48s, max speed 31.9mph

Interesting, eh?
