Great stage, very exciting with all the crashes, though never ideal to see that, and sad it's meant the end for some.

I'm currently the 'Porte' of the fantasy league with a late run up to 5th with Bardet. Much as I'd love to see Yates and Porte on the podium I'll settle for Bardet for the fantasy points :-)

Leggy - someone (SPR?) a few pages back spotted that GC riders contesting stage wins was best for you (Valverde, Rodriguez) and breakaways for me (Zakarin, Majka). So it's been a good day for you - 450 or so the lead now. I may have to focus on the podium...

Froome seemed to have loads of team mates close by when he went down. I wouldn't have picked Thomas as likely to have the most similar bike out of all of them? Wikipedia does list them as only an inch different in height (6'1" v 6'). Froome didn't seem to be straightening his leg during the pedal stroke as much as normal.

Am I the only one thinks of GT as a bit stumpy? ;-)

Remember Froome uses osymetric rings while G uses round rings. Not sure what difference this will make if the crank length and seat height is the same or very similar as that would be based on leg length, maybe the precision of movement for rings is slightly different compared to round rings.
I suppose you learn your measurements early in cycling and never forget them e.g. I am best on 57cm seat tube, 57cm top tube with a 10cm stem and 175mm cranks as well as other. Presumably G and Froomey are within a cm or even a few mm in their measurements, sufficient to not cause too much concern for a few k until a bike change.
With the lack of team car to switch and a relatively short climb to the finish yesterdat it may not have affected muscle movement too much to stay on G,s bike and minimise any potential time loss in switching to Froomey,s spare bike with O rings.

Yes that was me PtB. I was very surprised that Zakarin did nothing yesterday, I thought he was certain to go in the break and would be the strongest, that's why I put him in my KOM team.

Loads of possible outcomes today, would favour the breakaway normally, but a few GC riders might want to test each other out given how yesterday went.

DB: It's only marginally relevant to the situation yesterday, but in 'Bike Fit' Phil Burt (former physio with BC) suggests that some riders can cope with bikes significantly off the usual settings, whilst others are acutely sensitive. Specifically he says Geraint Thomas could cope with a saddle position (for example) a cm or so out, and would not notice or significantly lose performance for several hours. Ben Swift on the other hand he suggests has instantly noticed a difference in the compression of a saddle padding after it got changed.

If Froome is more toward the former case, then maybe he can cope reasonably well with riding on G's bike for a few km.

So Yates chances of getting back on the podium? I feel very unlikely, but 9 seconds and he has distanced Quintana previously a couple of days ago.

Plaza was the guy that did the handsling.

Matt White venting on ITV.

Can't agree with him and Millar, if it had no effect, they wouldn't do it and you get caught you pay the price.

Millar is not thinking this through.

If the arch fall had been treated like a racing incident like they're implying the Ventoux incident should have been, Yates wouldn't have been near Yellow and Froome would have got Yellow back the next day.

The break is on a short leash.
