I think TVG is fading unfortunately. Quintana and Valverde look good. I expect Thomas to drop further down GC.

Boardman was suggesting that different power meters and settings will produce different results and therefore the doubters are not comparing like with like (or something)
I am loving the ITV podcast again this year. Catching up has kept my rest day withdrawal symptoms at bay. Roll on tomorrow and the Alps :-)

That can't be right? Different power units producing big variations would be a disaster if a team changed manufacturer. I haven't used power though so don't know for sure.

Pretty sure Gobi has used at least a couple of power meter brand so should be able to say whether that is correct.

I use stages and Quarq

My old quarq can be a little ambitious but I am finding similar numbers between my stages and my TT quarq.

You do need to stay on top of the calibration

SPR, that would depend if you had a reference case. So Sky have the Wattbikes, they can use them to draw a map of power meter data for any other meter. If the desire is to look at trends and thresholds (more useful than absolute values) then it doesn't matter that the actual reported values change between different manufacturers devices.

Sports Science welcomed the publishing but basically said tells us little more than nothing, need performances over time and performances of other Sky riders from same days:

Gobi - Thanks. How do you calibrate power meters.

MM - but power is absolute like HR, and I can't imagine Sky settling for just having a trend. Especially as they'd want to calculate what the opposition is doing.

Chris - He also says the calculated power/weight doesn't add up. He gives Sky the benefit of the doubt, but given they would benchmark against Contador and Quintana to be sure of beating them, I'm pretty sure they know that power/ weight is incorrect.

Last year Nibali wasu using power to train to combat Froome and Contador's attacks. There was an article talking about needing to produce so many watts for so many seconds.

SPR - I saw that but didn't want to comment, was waiting for your input as I don't know enough about it... but yes most likely outcome is the power/weight is incorrect. There's some other stuff touched upon/alluded to but not expanded on. The effect of dehydration/weight loss during the climb. I know that they are thinking dehydration isn't such the performance killer it was assumed to be (but obviously there is a level where it does kick in, because it is a killer!) Some riders will lose more weight than others due to sweat rates. This is the kind of thing they can't track, as by end of climb rider will rehydrate immediately. I don;t think it's a make or break, but another "piece" of the puzzle.

SPR - follow instructions on the garmin :¬)

Seriously though if you need to get slope etc adjusted you need to weight the pedals and all sorts so every so often you send these things to the manufacturer

What Boardman said in summary was that you can't prove doping from power stats though of course people will keep on trying to
