Has anyone on here entered or done this event before? I have entered it and wondering what the conditions are like underfoot and any other general information. Assume its ok to add this to the race listings (as is a LDWA event)....which I will do next and detele if its an issue. It is a walking event which I have been told runners are welcome to run in.

I can't help with this one, but yes LDWA events are often listed on here.
It'll probably be muddy, wherever it is
Runners are usually welcome at all challenge events, they usually get to start a bit later so that they're not arriving at any checkpoint or food stop too early

Have a fab run :)

It's fine to add LDWA events - I've listed a few myself. Have you done one of these before? You are usually given (or have to download/print yourself) a set of instructions that tell you where to go. The checkpoints are normally good for grub too :-)

Me and t'missus jog/walk ours and we have a 20-miler coming up in a couple of weeks.

Good luck!

MAG this is a new event so you won't find anyone who has done it before, though you may be able to get some information from Leeds based people who know the locality and the paths that it uses. Good luck.

Hay all,
Just had chance to check this post and thank you for the replies. Ill expect some mud then, probably do it in my Inov8 Terraultra's. I hadnt realised it was a new event. I have seen the instructions and will download the GPS to my Garmin. Thanks for the info and if there is any more....let me know :-)

Rosehip you are correct, walkers are off at 8am, runners at 9am.

Cheers,
:-)

I know nothing about it but live in Roundhay so if you need any local knowledge I might be able to help. Do you have details of where it goes?

Ok, so I had a look at the route for this the other day as it starts close to home for me and was interested! (although I didn't look at the detail, so I've assumed that between Garforth and Wyke, you're pretty much following the Leeds Country Way - LCW).

Down as far as Temple Newsam from Roundhay is mostly tarmac path following the Temple Newsam Trail. The bit through TN itself is a mix of good hard packed trails and tarmac paths. They've done some flood alleviation work recently at Killingbeck Fields, so there may be some muddy bits across there (I need to go and resurvey for the O map down there!).

Between TN and Garforth I don't know the paths at all I'm afraid, but once you hit the Leeds Country Way, the paths are pretty good all the way to Bardsey, although you do go some fields etc and I suspect at this time of year they may well be quite muddy.

You've also got a ford to negotiate at Barwick (pronounced Barrack btw) and the new East Leeds Outer Ring Road runs close to where the LCW runs at the back of Manston, so again may be there some muddy bits round there.

The route back from Wyke (if I've worked it out right) is good paths, again muddy in a few small places, but mostly pretty good (if a tad boring) paths and small roads. Then you're back into Roundhay Park.

2nd lap (again from brief skim) has quite a lot of road up until you get into Meanwood Park, although Gledhow Valley Woods is nice (but you won't see the best bit!). Most of the urban paths and those along Woodhouse ridge are good paths and won't be too muddy.

You're then onto the Meanwood Valley Trail all the way up to Eccup, which apart from a small section just before King Lane are all good paths. I think you miss the muddy bit in Adel Woods out. Good paths and road around Eccup, but then when you get on the LCW again at Bank House Farm, there are some pretty muddy bits once you've gone around the right hand bend. But this only goes as far as Emmerdale, then once you're around Harewood, it's all good paths/road. Then long stretch of road to join back up with your route back to Roundhay Park.

Hope that helps!

Actually thinking about it, there's a lot of road/tarmac/paths that I'd almost always run in road shoes.

But probably enough muddy bits that if I were running, I'd want a light, cushioned trail shoe.

Hi rf_fozzy,
Fantastic responses thank you. I will keep what you say in mind, my Terraultra's are still favourite then, but all this weather of late I guess ill probably struggle on some muddy bits but can have it all ways. Thank you :-)
