They aren't brilliant NE, and I don't think they've been updated to the most recent route variations. That said though, they are only there as a courtesy - the route book and map are the primary guides. I always use the GPX as I tend to do it from memory (as I can't read the daft little route print outs they provide while moving!) and it's good enough for the roads through Braithwaite and down to Dalemain, which I can never remember, and to shout at me when I do something daft. |

You're right, I guess they are actually only a courtesy. I was thinking more from the perspective of those for whom the 50 and 100 will be largely unknown territory. I understand there is a surprisingly high number this year.

Mrs S, a combination of the map (provided) and the roadbook (provided) will see you around no problem at all. Unless you're right at the front, or right at the back, there will be loads of people to buddy up with. I reckon the only places to double check is the drop down to Haweswater from Low Cop, the wiggly bit before Kentmere CP and then when it gets dark some places can be less than obvious. In previous years you could get very wet feet around Blea Moss unless you took a high line but this year I expect it will be dry. |

We did it without any recces at first and had no problems. The road book is very good as long as you pay attention to it. The only place where I'm still not sure is coming down to Skelly Bridge off Loughrigg - I'm never sure which turn to take, but I think all ways end up in the same place! Blea Moss was the driest I've ever seen it on the UT55 a couple of week ago, but the path across there is now pretty obvious it's had so much foot traffic over the last 10 years! |

I'm (on the 50) at Blea Moss at around midnight and it is anything but obvious.

According to mwis, the greatest likelihood of thunder/lightning is eastern fells. The UTLD100's may be ok?

does anybody know the route after the blencathra checkpoint this year. is it back to normal, or is it still the road detour to the extra checkpoint? i think it was due to a bridge being out of action, so maybe it depends if that's been sorted.

Pretty sure that railway bridge is still down, so the detour after the blencathra centre will be same as last year. Last time I was in Buttermere the bridge was down, and there was a detour of about a mile, but somebody had put in stepping stones next to the bridge. That will probably be sorted now. |
